A few weeks ago I made good on an offer to visit Shyam at his new space. I always love going downtown and I was excited to bring my son Jack along for the trip to see what he thought of sculpture garden.
As soon as we had arrived I knew it was going to be a special event for Jack. You see Shyam has a special place in Jack’s heart, (as he does in all of ours as well). Even though Jack has only met him a few times, I can tell he knows there is something unique going on in those encounters. Of course one of the greatest moments in ftx history was the official delivery of #44 tee shirt. If you haven’t checked out that slice o’ toast, feast your eyes on this:

Anyway, as we got to the entrance Shyam leaned down to Jack and explained what he wanted to happen. That Jack would close his eyes and take Shyam’s hand and they would walk into the space, close the door (which would make a strange sound) and then open his eyes again. Now for those of you who do not know young Jack, he is somewhat suspect to new experiences and also has told me he is a little bit afraid of the dark. But all I know is that as soon as Shyam had spoken, Jack thrust his hand in anticipation.
After Jack opened his eyes again, he was transfixed. I must say that if you have never been in the sculpture garden at 600 Moulton, it is a pretty amazing treat. The whole place comes alive in the most fantastic, serene way. Jack dove right in and vamped the joint checking out all the items. He was particularly taken by the “key tree” and of course the amazing ftx inspired Christmas gift Shyam received from Sean (image coming soon!)
After we had our tour, we all say down and discussed the rippin’ ftx vynil stickers I got Shyam as a holiday gift.
He is being really tricky with these little beauties, only one per customer so I hear. If you have not gotten one I suggest finding out WHY NOT?
Finally, before heading back west towards the sunset of the 10 fwy, I had Shyam, Brandy and Jack strike one for my camera, and I do believe it is a beauty. After that I asked Shyam to take a picture of my son and I. I is my favorite picture ever taken of the two of us.
Thanks man.
